Today, the American Quarter Horse is best known as a show horse, race horse, reining and cutting horse, rodeo competitor, ranch horse, and trail horse. One distinguishing feature of the Quarter Horse is its ability to run in races of a quarter mile or less. This is where its name came from. The Quarter Horse is the most popular breed of horses.
